5 Podcasts That Got Me Through 2020 & 2021

5 Podcasts That Got Me Through 2020 & 2021

It’s no secret that lockdown (for the most part) gave us more time and therefore the opportunity to try new things, and listening to podcasts was one of those things for me. They really gave me a lot of relief during times when we lacked freedom, but not only that, as they gave me some level of routine too. But what were my go-to podcasts, you say? Well… Let me share them with you now, and maybe you’ll learn of your new favourite.

Mental Health Awareness Week: My Story

Mental Health Awareness Week: My Story

Hello! It’s been over a month since I last posted, but I’m back, ready to continue to try and help with breaking the stigma of mental health, conveniently lined up with Mental Health Awareness Week. I figured that to kick off the week I’d share with you what my experiences with mental health struggles have been like and why I’m now an advocate for it. So, I’ll try and keep it short, but here’s a revisit to my struggles with anxiety, depression, grief and burnout.

Grief & Me: Part 1

Grief & Me: Part 1

I’m sitting here writing this blog post after having felt a sudden wave of emotion this morning. A wave that hit me like a ton of bricks, completely unexpectedly. Today marks my Mum‘s birthday. She would have been 62 today, and it’s been 12 and a half years since she passed away, so you’d think it’d be a lot easier now. Well, some things get easier as time goes on, but of course there’s also a lot that never really leaves you.

Back To Life, Back To Reality: Thoughts on Life After the Pandemic

Back To Life, Back To Reality: Thoughts on Life After the Pandemic

It’s funny isn’t it… We’ve now spent roughly a year of what has been suggested as to be something other than “normal life” because it’s not the life we once lived prior to the pandemic. The life where we had all the freedom and joys of going where we wanted, spending time with the people we love, and hugging people freely. What we’ve lived for the past year being named as the “new normal” but not one that we want to stick around. Or do we?

Music & Mental Health Pt 1

Music & Mental Health Pt 1

I write this post feeling now more than ever, how positive music (and the Arts as a whole) can be on our mental health. Firstly, I want to say sorry to all those people within the arts out there who have been working hard to pursue their passions and dreams, who have had to see ads like the ‘Rethink, Reskill, Reboot’ campaign, suggesting that a job in cyber for example is more worthwhile than what they do or want to achieve. As a creative myself, I feel your pain. The Arts have such a benefit to those who are part of them and those who are on the receiving end of them.

Screen Break

Screen Break

I am currently writing this 3 days prior to when I intend on posting it. Why? Well for one, I’m actually trying to be organised and write some bloody posts, but secondly, and more importantly, it means I can schedule it to be posted on Sunday morning (possibly when you’re reading it) and not worry about having to take time out of my morning to physically go online and press publish myself. “Are you that lazy or normally that organised?!” I hear you cry. Nope! Tomorrow (Friday), after work, I go away with my boyfriend for a 2 night stay in Dorset, and I don’t want to have to feel like I need to go on my phone and post stuff whilst I’m spending our first bit of time away together in MONTHS. It’s funny isn’t it, because we live together, so we’ve spent all of lockdown together, but it’s definitely different when you’re away on ‘holiday’.

Lockdown Life and What I’ve Learnt

Lockdown Life and What I’ve Learnt

I may be a little late talking about life in lockdown because, as we know, it’s been eased a lot already. In fact we’re *almost* back to some sort of normal come Saturday. However, I think it’s important to reflect on that time where we were truly ‘locked down’ with only one exercise per day allowed.

Hey! It’s nice to meet you. What’s this all about then?

Hey! It’s nice to meet you. What’s this all about then?

Hey! I’m Alia. Just a girl in the wrong end of her 20s, trying to get through this life with as much happiness and positivity as I can. I’m a photographer by trade, with a hobby for writing, but why am I writing this blog? Well, we all have our stories and a large part of mine consists of anxiously wondering through life. I’ve been a shy and anxious person for as long as I can remember, and despite having a pretty good life really, despite a few ups and downs, it hasn’t seemed to have left me yet. In fact, it got worse.
